Man Takes Heartwarming Photos of the Humans of New York

Brandon Stanton has lived in New York since 2010.  He began walking the streets with his camera, like many of us, fascinated with people watching.  Soon he began to take photos of the New Yorkers he would meet and posted them to his Facebook page, called “Humans of New York”.

He noticed quickly that people seemed to like his work.  His page likes started to go up, and up, and up.  He now has over 3.2 million likes.  His page started a movement and there are now “Human’s of…” Facebook pages for nearly every major city in the world.   Brandon himself has become a bit of a celebrity on the streets of New York as his work becomes more recognized.

His touching, sometimes heartwarming photos feature a vast array of people from New York, as well as visitors, and with each photo, a quote from the conversation that Brandon has with the photo subject.

And it’s not just an art hobby. Together with his millions of followers, he has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.  Brandon has become a New York Times author and has released a Humans of New York book.

This was so funny. I ran into this Mexican couple on a trail in Central Park, and they were lugging around all these balloons. I asked what the balloons were for, and the guy told me that he’d brought them all the way from Mexico. He said he’d concocted this elaborate plan, where he’d given balloons to different people around the city (starting with the hotel concierge), and sent the girl on a scavenger hunt to find them.
“Just because?” I asked.
“Just because,” he said.
When I got home, I had an email. It said:
I couldn’t tell you, but I was about to ask her to marry me.
She said yes!
