It’s Groundhog Day, so you know what that means right?! Will we get an early spring or 6 more weeks of winter?
For those living in the East with frigid conditions I bet you’re looking forward to an early spring. For those of us in the West, it’s been a rather mild winter with very little snow, even in the mountains, so I have to admit I wouldn’t mind some winter to enjoy some skiing. But, with the dandelions and cherry blossoms already blooming (crazy i know!) I think we might just get that early spring. But it’s not up to me!
Depending on where you live in North America there are two very famous groundhogs who look for their shadows each year on February 2nd. Punxsutawney Phil is the celeb groundhog from the United States and Wiarton Willie is our albino Canadian groundhog. They both appear and depending on the weather conditions and if they see their shadows, they’ll determine the meteorological future. Now I have difficulty remembering from year to year if seeing the shadow means winter or spring and vice versa so here’s a cute little song to help us all remember!
Ok, and what were their predictions? Both Wiarton and Punxsutawney saw their shadows today so that means another 6 weeks of winter!
Happy Groundhog Day and we at Doog News hope that regardless of the Groundhog predictions, you’ll get the weather you want!
