Today is Father’s day, but father’s day came early for Marc Grimard, who had a chance to reunite with his sick son thanks to Ronald Mcdonald house and WestJet.
Marc hadn’t seen his son Joel in 3 months while the youngster and his mom stayed at Ronald Mcdonald house in Edmonton battling a congenital heart condition. The family couldn’t afford to have both parents in Edmonton, so Marc was back home in Saskatoon working at his job as a transit maintenance worker.
This is where WestJet stepped in and customer service agent Midel Villena offered to cover Marc’s job for five days so that they could fly the dad to Edmonton to be there with his young son. Villena, a dad himself, trained and filled in for the work week. Marc was truly touched by the Westjet worker’s generous gesture. “I don’t have the words to say how grateful I am.”
Ronald Mcdonald house allows families to live together while children undergo treatment, giving them a safe place that isn’t a hospital and the chance to do simple, everyday things as a family. So this opportunity allowed the Girard family to just “be normal”. As they say in the video, sometimes the best part of being a dad, is just being a dad.
