What would you do if the person you loved began to forget your special memories together? This is what Verna and Jerry Kinersly are facing. The couple has been married for 60 years. Verna was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, making it difficult to remember the moments they shared together. Jerry looks after his wife and best friend, helping her to remember.
The couple have also found care and help from a non-profit group called Keep Memory alive in Las Vegas. The organization helps those living with Alzheimer’s with the everyday challenges of living with this terrible disease, and gives hope that one day they will find a cure. Keep Memory Alive’s goal is to provide care to people with memory and movement disorders. Some of these disorders include Alzheimer’s, Huntington and Parkinson disease, as well as frontotempal dementia and multiple sclerosis.
Someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s every 70 seconds in the US. But this couple isn’t going to let this terrible disease get in the way of their love. “She is the love of my life, she’s my best friend” says Jerry of Verna. “This has got to be the happiest ending you can have, you know, have 60 years of wonderful times together.”
This touching video tells the story of how true love can overcome anything.
