We all know real estate is super expensive in Vancouver and Calgary and in many Canadian cities but this is a first – a FREE house in Calgary! Though, there is a catch. While the bungalow itself is FREE, the new owner must pick it up and move it to its new home, aka you need a piece of land to put it on. Gosh I wish I had a piece of land and I’d take it. Easy right?!
Country singer Jason Hastie and his wife, Gina, plan to build a new larger home on their current property but they don’t have it in them to tear down their perfectly fine 1,200-square-foot, 1952 three-bedroom house that they’ve lived in for the last 10 years. As a result they’ve posted their house for free on Kijiji.ca announcing that they want to give it away to a family in need. And, they’re even willing to pay $1000 towards the moving cost.
So if you’ve got some land and you’re in need of a house and you can pick this one up in Calgary, then go for it! According to Pat McCann of McCann’s Building Movers in Calgary it could cost up to $30,000 to move a home of this size plus there’s the expense of securing it to a new foundation he told the Calgary Sun. Hmmm, maybe it’s not that good of a deal. But it’s still a free house! That’s pretty generous.
